I am officially getting old because I remember the first Lolapalooza from HS!
But how cool is the fact that I can listen to the entire show this year on XM!

I was thinking today about this whole gay marriage issue. I don't really get overly caught up in it because I think it is stupid. Not the idea of it - the idea that people are getting so crazy about it and saying it destroys the moral fabric of the country.
What actually came to mind as I was sitting here is that until the 70's there were a ton of state and local laws that restricted marriage and their sole purpose was to stop black and white people from marrying. I don't know a person alive who could hold their head high and say "Oh yeah we still have that old law on the books but no one pays any attention to it" - but that is what a ton of people do when a similar law (in its outcome) is being pressed to be on the books. It is like I always say... apparently the only people that you can outwardly talk about and hate these days are gays.
Think about it - it is so true. Would you ever make a comment or proclamation about an African American similar to what you feel you could get away with saying about gay people? If you were out in a restaurant and someone said something disparaging about a black person most people would show some type of disdain towards that person; some would speak right up to them and call them on it. But throw in the word gay instead of black and the majority of people will just feign ignorance and/or ignore it - even if they know gay people and don't have any problem with the group.
What a world!
Archbishop of Sudan Daniel Deng - as I like to say - "smiling like the devil."
How sickening is this? He wants the gay bishop Gene Robinson to resign or the church will have a schism. The guy actually said that Robinson must do it to save the church! Correct me if I am wrong, but its this asshole who is trying to break up the church.
Stuff like this makes me crazy. You have a guy from half way around the world making the role of a gay bishop his top priority. Hmmm, you are a bishop in the Sudan - might there be more pressing issues right there in your own back yard?
The church is made up of individual congregations/communities for a reason. They didn't want one single person pretending to be God's mouthpiece. Apparently the people in Robinson's congregation are pretty happy with his leadership.
This is as ridiculous as Republican evangelicals who say people like Tom Ridge can't be a VP because he is pro-choice. There is no moderation in the world these days - which is why we get absolutely nothing done. Why is it so hard for people to get off their high horse and find some type of respect for others and a middle ground? The majority of Americans fall into this category, yet the vocal minority on each side just rule the day.
Great quote from John Stewart on tonight's Daily Show:
"Obama visited Jordan's King Abdullah II, then flew to Israel for talks with Israeli leaders. His first stop was a visit to the manger...where he was born"
You know, for some reason I thought of Margaret Cho and how funny she used to be. Then, the world famous "Azz master" bit came to mind. I hope it takes you down memory lane with a laugh - it certainly did for me.
Azz master he he he - mommy gonna look now...I was so curious
I was taking a few snaps with my alpha this week and got two really terrific of the bog. So I thought I would share them:
So I am watching TV while I was working on something and I hear the voice of the Bionic Man Steve Austin! I look up and there was Lee Majors. First off - he is 67 years old and he is still hot. Then he started talking and he suddenly sounded very old. He was selling - wait for it - The Lee Majors Bionic Hearing Aid.
Oh yes, the bionic hearing aid is rechargeable and it works just like his bionic ear. It sounds like it costs six million but it is much much less.
My head is still spinning.
This is pretty cool.
It was announced over at Engadget that e-ink will be used on Esquire Magazine's cover.
I am a big fan of e-ink. I love my Kindle for a number of reasons, but the biggest is the look and feel of the e-ink display. Most people just don't get it. This is the look and feel of paper - and that is something. No matter how many displays you have seen, none feel the same on your eyes as an e-ink device. There is no glare. There is no brightness and light beaming into your eyes (over time making them hurt). It just sits there like regular paper.
Well, good 'ol boy Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart, creator of that really touching comic book we talked about last week (in the post Jesus - help these people out PLEASE) took to the airwaves this weekend. Oh it is quite fun to watch.
I found it funny that the reporter noted that Rinehart misspelled "pedophile" twice in his comic. Apparently, when you have God on your side you don't need spell check. Nope, much like the Bible, God must have told him to write it that way and no one should question or interpret that. I really do try to be fair when it comes the extreme religious right. When you turn around and fight with them or call them names or mock them, it is the same as what they do to others. That being said - this guy just makes me want to say - "what a fu**ing asshole."
A few nights ago I was driving home very very late at night after taking my nephew to the midnight show of The Dark Knight. I called my friend in CA and started to give my Siskel & Ebert review, but then the topic changed to books. For some reason I remembered a book I purchased right at the end of college. It was called Pizza face; or the Hero of Suburbia by Ken Simon. As I tried to recall the specifics of the book to her, I began to become quite nostalgic. I remembered just how much I enjoyed that book.
The story is one of the ugly kid. The one who just never fit in but never seemed to let that dissuade him. It was set in the 1970's and it was funny as hell. I remembered that it was funny and I also remembered that it really touched me. I didn't identify with him - I was not an ugly kid, never had acne (thus Pizza face) and I was not a teenager in the seventies. The kid ended up being gay, so I guess maybe I keyed in on that, but this was not really the thrust of the book. It was just about being someone who thought he was really cool and special and never realizing what a "different" person he was.
I came home and went searching for the book and found it on Amazon (of course). I found an as new copy for 1cent! I am so very excited to read it again.
You should take a look at it and give it a read. It is wonderful. Here's a review I found online.
This kind of stuff makes me laugh...then I get a bit of reality check and think "how can it be possible that this stuff goes on and the world doesn't think they are a problem."
Today, some jackass in Oklahoma is mailing out a comic book to aid in his re-election campaign as County Commissioner (take note - people need to get involved at the local level, that is why the middle of the country is so f-upped). So this Brent Reinhart is sending this comic book out that depicts Satan and an Angel talking about how gays are destroying the world; but as the angel says "Brent won't let that happen."
It is beyond words to me. Here is the actual comic book - check it out
My friend is about to get two (that's right, I said 2) new kitties! I thought she should name them Cinamon and Vanilla. Then I moved on to other combos that were equally stupid.
I actually do not like cats. There is just something about them. I find them sneaky and, if I could ascribe a personality trait to them - condescending would come to mind.
Give me a dog any day - dumb and happy.
I love Fat Boy Slim - and when my TIVO showed me a new recording today called "Fat Boy Slim - Big Beach Boutique" I was pretty excited. Then I actually started watching it :-(
I'm afraid today's big fun deejay does not translate well into concert movie territory. The music rocked - but I had a hard time not napping with the visuals. I know if I was there it would be a different story. Perhaps he should hold off on more concert footage.
Ugghh - so this weekend McCain decided he should let every Christain whack job know that he hates the gays. He was there with his adopted family and then said:
"I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption."
I find his position to be outside the mainstream and downright discriminatory. Let's go one further - Do you know how many kids are stuck in the foster care system? Better to let them be tossed back and forth from home to home with a garbage bag filled with their few belonging than put them with the gays - right? You don't need to be gay or a nutty liberal to react to an attitude like this. Normal, everyday people think it is just a ridiculous position to take.
I am going nuts - just another reason I am going to be forced to vote for that lightweight Obama!
Oh for God's sake - it's called satire. It mocks the very fact that any person with even the slightest bit of common sense knows that he is not a Muslim.
I think John Stewart got it right on The Daily Show tonight. He said that the response from the Obama camp should have been:
"Barrack Obama is in no way upset about the cartoon that depicts him as a muslim extremist...because you know who gets upset about cartoons? Muslim extremists of which Obama is not. It's just a fucking cartoon!"
