I am on the Fringe

Can I just say how much I love the tv show "Fringe". This show just rocks.
I have to say that I was completely unsure what I would think about the show. I was never a fan of shows. Like the X files - so I didn't have high hopes. I probably just tuned on because - "who doesn't love Joshua Jackson ana Pacey.".

He was actually pretty good in it.

A bit behind

I have been a little slow with posts. My laptop died. The last few posts I have made were from my iPhone.

Swimmer's body

Ok, I admit it. I never gave two shakes about this guy and his big gay diving dream. But you know what? I am apparently this superficial that I saw this photo and was like "OMG he is so hot"

Wait, here is another:

Skip the Lipstick - wear the pin

Oh the world is just ridiculous. The Republicans are now playing offense with the most silly of attacks like "He called our veep a pig." It is just amazing to me that anyone buys such feigned outrage, but they do.

I personally am uninterested with this particular attack. I was pretty amused by the button image shown above.

I really don't like to think about Obama as "Christ-like" but hey, it puts the conversation in a tone that whackjob holy roller Sarah Palin and her supporters at least understand. You know -

if you read it in the bible its true :-)

The Big remake

So we take boy redneck Levi Johnston and force himm into a shotgun wedding then quickly clean him up so he doesn't look like a redneck - easy.

slide_263_8 slide_263_9 slide_263_11 slide_263_4

Then you delete his MySpace page -

"I'm a  "f***in redneck" who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes, but "I don't want kids",I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- - - and just f - - -in' chillin' I guess, Ya f - - - with me I'll kick [your] ass."

What a prize. Yeah this is a real exemplary group -- this is not small town it is white trash.

Dance Little Man Dance...

How do you dance around a comment like this? On 10 August, Karl Rove made an attack on Tim Kaine when everyone was positive he was going to be Obama's VP pick:

"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he has only been a governor for 3 years. He's been able but undistinguished. I don't think people could name one big or important thing he's done. He was the mayor of the 105th largest in America"

So how do you do a song and dance on how qualified Sarah Palin is? 20 months as Governor and mayor of an 8000 person city (I don't think the rankings go that low for cities). That is truly a golden foot in one's mouth.

Go Sarah Go Sarah Go Sarah Go

Oh Sarah  - we hardly knew you...oh wait, that is what the McCain vetting folks are singing.

Tomorrow's Washington Post will report that the McCain camp did not even start vetting her until Wednesday, one day before she was offered the job. This is less time than you would take to vet a cabinet member.

Did anyone notice that she has had no public presence since Friday?  Let' face it, they are busy:

  • She doesn't just need prepped, she needs taught most of the issues before they could ever let her out in front of the press. That is a hell of a lot to learn.
  • She is still the Governor of Alaska and has things to attend to.
  • She has a 4 month old downs syndrome child that needs attention. I am not saying this in a sexist way, she is needed by her child.
  • She has hired a lawyer and is currently under investigation.
  • Oh yes - she has to plan a wedding.

I am being partially sarcastic, but I feel a bit bad for this woman. She has a lot to manage in the weeks ahead. I wouldn't want this responsibility.

Back to the Future...Republicans Day 2 (or is it 1)

rnclogoI have to admit that my recent feelings of complete betrayal by John McCain had me leaning to just not watching this event...but I gave in at the last minute.

WOW - I can't believe that the idea is to just talk about Ronald Reagan and skip over the last 8 years of George W. Bush.

All I heard tonight was a not surprisingly large shift to in your face abortion talk and arguments about the Democrats as baby killers and tax raisers. Nothing else except for Lieberman. This is what most upset me.

Lieberman gave what I thought was the perfect speech. It talked about getting past ideology and  getting things done. Interestingly enough it got a tepid response from the crowd. As usual, a moderate or even a Democrat bows down to the self righteous and says "let's please work together." It became a real knife in the back of people like myself who thought "My God, this could have been an incredibly historic, productive and open ticket."

I thought Thompson gave gave a wonderful speech. It was sincere in regards to his feelings about McCain.

All in all, this didn't get as nasty and self righteous as some previous years, but it had that feeling.

Oh there's more

Oh look- another Bibleman clip - this one is even better! You could turn this into a great drinking game.

Bibleman and Daredevil share one thing on common - not money makers

Oh my - this is just too good to be true.

I saw on TV that Willie Aames has declared bankruptcy. Apparently the former start of Eight is Enough and Charles In Charge did not actually leave Charles in charge of his finances.

But here is the really good part. Willie has spent the last few years playing Bibleman - a "human transformed to a hero by his faith in God." Oh you can't make stuff like this up.

Here is a link to the character page - you must read if you want a chuckle.

Highlights include:

  • "Had everything in life - money, status, success. In spite of this he felt unhappy with his life...discovered the word of God...Philippians 4:13...and was transformed. Imbued with superhuman powers he became Bibleman , dedicated to fighting evil in God's name"
  • His partner in crimefighting is Cypher, "who always was a fan of Bibleman since he went public...assists Bibleman with tactical and technical support.
  • Oh and who could forget Bible Girl, a high school student majoring in drama!
  • Luxor Spawndroth is the arch enemy and one of "Satan's minions" and he uses weapons like the shoulder mounted ego enhancing ray which "makes its victims become egotistical fools" and the disobedience germs.

Oh please, watch the video clip. he is getting dressed in his superhero outfit with things like the "breastplate of faith" and the "shoes of Peace." And, wait for it...then they say "Now that's what I call dressed to confess!"

I wonder if the Palin family has the videos?

McAmerican

I may be disgusted with John McCain and his complete lack of backbone/desperation to win as demonstrated by his sacrificing Lieberman for a religious right fanatic,

BUT I can say that he has at least maintained his common sense and American spirit.

I thought his decision to pretty much wipe the Republican Convention aside was admirable. Sure, many would say he didn't have much of a choice, but I really do believe that he stood up and said "we do nothing - this is bull in comparison to the suffering and potential devastation taking place." I will go out on a limb and say that if this had been the week of the Democratic Convention I do not think that they would have been so selfless. No one knows for sure, but I can't picture the Obama campaign just giving up its chance to put on a show. I am not saying they would have done business as usual, but I strongly believe there was no way that Obama would forgo is love-in of a speech.

I know too that it is political spin, but I really liked McCain standing up and saying "We need to take off our Republican hats and put on our American hats." That was pretty inspiring (unless you are so jaded that you write for the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post.

Memory Lane

Remember when Brtiney was just a Mouseketeer turned whore? Oh those were the days.

I have to admit, I was listening to Pandora today and Your Drive Me Crazy came on the playlist. I had forgotten just how good this song was. It would not go to a desert island with me, but it is worth giving another spin. So enjoy the video.

Credit where credit is due

I have to say that the Bush administration really learning from the tragic performance of "Brownie and company" during Katrina.

The efforts of all the government agencies, the state and private groups has been top notch. I might even be willing to give Bush a little forgiveness on his last performance by saying that perhaps they just didn't know how terrible stuff like this could be and how you need to over-react in advance rather than react when it happens.

One of the big differences is that State and local officials finally acted proactively. This time around it was "You WILL evacuate" and they started in in advance as opposed to 24 hours before hand. They worked with the Federal Government and neighboring states and it looks like they are actually in control.

I do hope and pray that the total damage from the storm(s) is minimal.  Now I see we have Hanna, Gustav and then Ike. Regardless of the fury, I do expect that all involved will be applauded as doing a good job of being prepared and protecting lives.

No Virgin Mary

Oh what a day! Super Mom, Super Holy, Super Governor Sarah Palin has just confirmed that her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. She was sad to report that it was not an immaculate conception but just a plain old sinful premarital sex act.

The Daily Kos (aka - absurd whackjob liberals equal in stature to the social conservatives) did some ridiculous reporting that Sarah Palin faked her own pregnancy and then was pretending that Trig was really her son rather than Grandson. This was beyond wishful thinking - this was just crazy mean. Those people are just an embarrassment.

That being said - Sarah Palin just reinforced her status as the worst VP pick in the history of the world. OK, her daughter is pregnant. Shit happens.  I found it quite amusing though that the first thing was to tell everyone "Oh they are getting married." I guess this is all the crazy Christians need to forgive her sins. I am happy that she is not having an abortion - I am not a big fan. I would not have looked any less on her if she had decided she was going to have one. It is her business - not mine.

I found it interesting that adoption didn't come into the discussion. Let's be real. How many shotgun weddings of two 17 years olds with a newborn end up being a success story?  I guess they figured with a mom who is a Governor or potential VP there won't be much concern about being successful, having support or landing jobs/careers with cronies. If she were the daughter of two Wal-Mart employees living in public housing I wonder if they would be advocating marriage and not considering adoption. Perhaps the are concerned it would be adopted by gays! I guess they couldn't hide it by sending her out of the country for 9 months...I am sure she, like her Mother, doesn't have a passport!

You know what the real hypocrisy of this story is? Our little Promise keeper Bristol Palin was raised with the wonderfully effective abstinence only program. I am not saying she would have avoided becoming pregnant if she knew about contraception (and was told it was not a sin), but every reliable study says that real education would have reduced her chances. Social conservatives love to throw up their bogus studies about the effectiveness of abstinence only programs, but they have been debunked be every credible medical researcher. Of course, the program did have its benefits. It produced more and more Christian girls who won't have intercourse but are happy to blow you are take it in the ass!

Just another wonderful new revelation about Sarah Palin. It isn't going to hurt her - and it should not. But what it says about the far right and the way they operate is laughable. Now all we need is for 18 year old soldier track Palin to turn out to be gay. Oh how I would love to see that one.
