I have to say that the Bush administration really learning from the tragic performance of "Brownie and company" during Katrina.
The efforts of all the government agencies, the state and private groups has been top notch. I might even be willing to give Bush a little forgiveness on his last performance by saying that perhaps they just didn't know how terrible stuff like this could be and how you need to over-react in advance rather than react when it happens.
One of the big differences is that State and local officials finally acted proactively. This time around it was "You WILL evacuate" and they started in in advance as opposed to 24 hours before hand. They worked with the Federal Government and neighboring states and it looks like they are actually in control.
I do hope and pray that the total damage from the storm(s) is minimal. Now I see we have Hanna, Gustav and then Ike. Regardless of the fury, I do expect that all involved will be applauded as doing a good job of being prepared and protecting lives.
