I may be disgusted with John McCain and his complete lack of backbone/desperation to win as demonstrated by his sacrificing Lieberman for a religious right fanatic,
BUT I can say that he has at least maintained his common sense and American spirit.
I thought his decision to pretty much wipe the Republican Convention aside was admirable. Sure, many would say he didn't have much of a choice, but I really do believe that he stood up and said "we do nothing - this is bull in comparison to the suffering and potential devastation taking place." I will go out on a limb and say that if this had been the week of the Democratic Convention I do not think that they would have been so selfless. No one knows for sure, but I can't picture the Obama campaign just giving up its chance to put on a show. I am not saying they would have done business as usual, but I strongly believe there was no way that Obama would forgo is love-in of a speech.
I know too that it is political spin, but I really liked McCain standing up and saying "We need to take off our Republican hats and put on our American hats." That was pretty inspiring (unless you are so jaded that you write for the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post.
