Edwards messed up

WOW - doesn't this old cover of Newsweek really say something?

Yes, John Edwards had an affair. We know he had it while his popular wife was fighting a very public battle with cancer. We know they have photos of him in a hotel room with a baby - but we don't know if it is his. and who really cares?

I have always thought Edwards was a snarky lightweight. His affair or lack there of doesn't make me think any differently. I guess we need to look at the idea of how we would react if people would just step up at the start of their campaign and admitted to having an affair. I mean seriously - do you really care of the President had an affair? I don't? I really don't care who he sleeps with, his favorite position, his penchant for getting spanked, etc. It really does not effect their ability to perform in their job.

I guess what screws it up is lying about it. Of course, Bill Clinton did and everyone still likes him. Hell, I am a republican and I like him - a lot!

The lying about it is a double edged sword. I guess you might look and think to yourself - "hey, we were two consenting adults and we are fine with it - why talk about it again." So you go run for office and think it is not something you think about and why would the public be looking into it. I think that is reasonable. But these guys know better. They know that we have a voracious need to know dirt about people. They know that people will crucify them (rightly or wrongly). So they lie. And on some levels - can you blame them?

I will say one thing. He picked a real winner in that Rielle Hunter. Not that Monica Lewinsky was a real prize either. At least he picked someone age appropriate, but she looks like trailer trash to me. Hell, his already said that "the other man" she was sleeping with already said it was his baby. She sounds like a class act.
