Who In the Hell Am I Going To Vote For????

This entire election cycle sucks!

Laying all the cards on the table…I am a Republican. Now before you immediately write me off and write some curse words in the comments, I am  VERY MODERATE Republican. How could I not be? I am am a business person. Well, you could argue that I am gay and well-educated, but that is why I am always so quick to clarify the whole "moderate" position.

The truth is that the traditional Republican positions (pre-Reagan) are about free-markets, individual liberties, small government and peace through power. I believe in all of those things. Yet anyone who looks at the current party would say that these are not the real issues that concern them. No, they seem to be interested in making sure everyone "knows God" and have "Family values." The leadership of the Republican party is just sickening. They are religious zealots who's dogmatic approach to every issue in the world is God. Everything they do lately is all about control and reducing people's liberties.

This is a ruthless bunch too. The moderates of the party are just ignored and taken for granted because the righties figure that there is no way that we will support liberals. With that in mind, I had wanted to make my vote for president this year a vote against the right-wing of our party. Who was that going to be?

Well, it started out being Rudy. I really thought that Giuliani was a terrific

choice. And just to be clear, it wasn't the whole 9-11 recognition. The guy was a terrific mayor. He controlled spending, he lowered taxes, he was tough on crime and he truly did turn around America's largest city. That, to me, represented some real leadership and competence in managing the country. He was a real person, which I think America has not seen in a leader in a long time. The guy was not a lily white, ivy leaguer who never really experienced the real world. The guy was an average Joe who worked his way up from the Bronx. He knew what it was like to work, to interact with all kinds of people, to go out and party. I liked him because he talked about the economy (that tax plan is going to be sorely missed) and he wasn't afraid to talk about crime and war.protection. AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT GOT HIM? Those asshole advocates within the party who pretty much control the primaries stood there and smugly smiled and said "Oh well he cheated on his wife, he supports gays and he wants to kill the unborn."

OK, so obviously he ran a bad campaign up front and he is out. So now what does one do? I had decided that my best choice was to vote for Hillary.

Like it or not, Hillary is a tough leader who is NOT a liberal extremist. She is a very middle of the road Democrat and I felt that I could trust her leadership. Much like the idiots on the right, those Democratic liberals (they are just as nuts as the righties) shunned her. I still can't believe that they would pick a 1 term Senator with no practical experience with an extremely unsubstantiated platform who could give one hell of a speech. Much like Rudy, the Democrats screwed Hillary because she voted for the war. What an equally stupid bunch of people.

Now I have to look at McCain and Obama. Oh what a joy.

I like McCain, I think he is a hero, but he is not a moderate. He certainly is better prepared and has a greater insight into war and being on the offense when it comes to terrorism, but he presents me with no real vision for America. He is a maverick but he is not speaking out against the whack job of the party and that just won't do. When he appeared at Vilanova and said he would not pick a pro-choice candidate I just recognized that he is just not going to be able to control them.

Then we have Obama. I think he gives a great speech. He makes me feel good about all the things we could achieve in a "new" Washington. Then the speech stops and you ask "how are you going to accomplish this?" I get nothing! Then little things comes out and all I hear are the worst of liberal positions when it comes to economics, size of government and taxes. Plus, I'll be honest, I think he is a little too political for someone who professes new politics. All of that Trinity church stuff was ridiculous, but it did make one thing clear - Obama was in that church so he could gain African American clout. I don't really believe he is a radical afro-centric nut - and anyone who does is just ignorant. He is a light-weight who will do or say anything to get into the Oval Office.

Great set of choices huh? The scary thing is, right now I am desperately trying to find reasons to NOT vote for Obama.  When it comes to the long-term state of the country, my biggest issue this election is the Supreme Court. I am desperately afraid that another 4 years of the current whack job Republicans will present a complete assault on people's freedom to do, say and act within their inherent freedoms.

So much of my daily thoughts will probably be like a conversation with Sybil. I find myself loving, hating, defending and attacking both of these guys on a regular basis. How depressing.
